10-28-13 Going well, Temple Visit, but got a Head Cold
http://belgiumnetherlandsmission.blogspot.com
Okay, hmmm where to begin... Well it sounds like everything is going well back at home! It's weird hearing about Halloween... I just remembered that that's in 3 days... But it's an American holiday and only a handful of Nederlanders attempt to celebrate it =) Those who do, will usually have just a couple pumpkinds out front of their door, but no carved faces or anything. I saw one house that was putting up some decorations around their house, but like I said, only one house! Instead, the centrum in Hengelo has begun putting up their "Christmas" decorations! So naturally, (huge thanks to Chris here) my companion and I have been listening to a ton of the Christmas music CDs that Chris gave me. *cough cough* possibly lots and lots of Trans-Syberian Orchestra and Mannheim Steamroller, but I didn't say that!!
So I got sick. Super duper bad head cold that made me sleep for almost the whole day Saturday, a lot of Sunday, and left me a bit woozy still today. Not fun at all. I'm gonna go get some medicine today, to hopefully kick it totally out.
We had our temple conference this week, which was super cool. On my mission president's blog, there should be some pictures with that, but unfortunately we didn't make it out fast enough for the picture. The whole thing was in Dutch, so that was cool when I could understand, but also weird for the rest of the time. Speaking of the language, I think I have sounded a little confident and optimistic in my emails or something. Most of the time, I have a really hard time understanding what everyone's saying, but thank goodness that it's getting better with each day! A lot of the time, it's hard to decide what to actually study about the language, because there's so much that I need and want to learn.
Next, about the aforementioned mission president's blog: Could you please put that up on my website's home page thingy?www.belgiumnetherlandsmission.blogspot.com Oh and I'm still getting a bunch of people asking me about why the letters aren't up on the website.... So not to be rude or anything... But yeah.... Thanks for putting up with me =) Sorry. Also... And I know this sucks, but I can't send any photos home on these computers here. I don't know how we're gonna figure it out yet, but I'll keep searching for an inexpensive way to get pictures to you all. And I'm sorry if I don't always have time to get personal emails back to everyone! Mission life is rough.
Okay so some weird things about the Netherlands/Europe-in-General: Everything's smaller. Stairs are narrow and thin, really nice houses are really quite small compared to Utah standards, cups are all small (and juice containers, which means we go through quite a lot of juice for me unfortunately or else I get a bit dehydrated), the streets are all narrow (they look like they should be one-way, but everybody just drives crazy), etc, etc. Just some little things that are weird to get used to. Which reminds me, we rented me a bike for a couple days because I still haven't found a good and cheap one to buy. Biking here, is so freakin weird. It all makes sense, and I'm used to it more now, but that first ride, was a bit terrifying! I can't imagine what it's gonna be like in the bigger cities... It's cool though, it definitely is. I had to learn the "Dutch way of getting on a bike" by standing to the side of the bike, put one foot on, push off with the other, and then swing that leg over as you're coasting. I don't know if I explained that well enough, but yeah... It feels scary to at first, but I feel more confident doing it now.
Elder Huff is a cool trainer. We get along well, work well together, and have a lot of fun. He loves to talk about girls, and it's funny hearing all of his stories while being in the Netherlands. So far, all of our potential investigators (people we've contacted on the street or by knocking their door) have all fallen through with their appointments. So that's a bit frustrating. All of our numbers are 0's therefore, when we report them. But oh well, we'll find that success somewhere! Okay my brain won't let me think anymore, so I'm gonna do a few quick personal emails (sorry if I don't get back to all of you), and then go shop for a few things. Speaking of, can I get a report on my debit card? I need to buy a coat, scarf, gloves, bike, electric razor, etc, in the upcoming few weeks. Unforunately. Sorry =( But I think I've got quite a bit saved up? Let me know how Halloween goes and keep updating me with whatever else is going on!
Okay thank you all so very very much for your letters! It's awesome hearing from you! Loves and stuff, byes byes!
