So update on Kim for this week: She's incredible. She's been studying the
Book of Mormon, some pamphlets, Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Ezra
Taft Benson, and Gospel Principles. She's always got good questions and
really just wants to follow God no matter what it takes. Especially now....
So we went to teach her last Saturday, planning on teaching the Word of
Wisdom and Follow the Prophet. When we got there, she started telling us
about how she'd been studying about Ezra Taft Benson and then said how
she'd been feeling kind of sick after she'd drank (drunken?) some coffee.
Perfect? Yes. So I couldn't stop smiling at one point during her talking
about all of this stuff and I started to laugh a little. I hurried and told
her why and we were all just amazed how well she'd been prepared for those
two lessons.
Then the next day, she called us and she just sounded super distraught,
almost hysterical. She was saying how she got invited by a friend from her
old church to go and watch a movie. She felt like she shouldn't go, but she
went anyways. Turns out, it was some raunchy movie about one-night stands
and Kim kept feeling the Spirit tell her she should go, but she didn't want
to embarrass herself. So she didn't go until the movie was over. But then
she felt absolutely physically sick and got a headache and just horribly
sick all over. She said that earlier that day she had actually read about
the Law of Chastity and learned what it was.
I told her that things were gonna be okay and that she'd feel better soon.
It was obvious that she was going through a serious repentance process.
It's hard to see somebody else have to do that, but it's necessary
sometimes. It became obvious though that she wasn't really allowing the
Atonement to help her feel better yet though. So she called back again and
was just more upset and so I offered that we could give her a priesthood
blessing, the Spirit just impressed upon me that that's exactly what she
needed. She was super grateful that I said that and said that she had
actually called a second time because she felt like God had a way for us to
help her.
So we went over and she looked like she was almost on her deathbed, I felt
so bad for her. She just kept saying how bad she felt about not listening
to the Spirit and disobeying God after she had just learned about what
right and wrong was with the Law of Chastity. So we gave her a blessing and
she immediately just looked a lot better and she said that she felt a lot
better. If any investigator's got enough faith already to be healed from
something, it's probably Kim. She called us the next day and explained how
much better she'd been feeling and how grateful she was for us and for the
lesson that God had taught her. She never wants to disobey the Spirit again
and wants to follow God to the very best of her ability.
It's been incredible teaching her and watching the process that she's gone
through. She really is a golden investigator because she's an honest seeker
of truth and light. She's humbled herself to the point where God truly does
mean almost everything to her. It's sad that she had to go through that
hard lesson, but I know that she'll never forget it. She's going to always
be able to remember that and use it to help herself and to help others.
So that's been the highlight of the week. In other news, Pablo (our latest
baptism) was cleaning the church the other day and just being his normal
hilarious self. He was posing with the broom and kept just joking around
about everything. He's got no money, a very humble apartment that he shares
with like 5 other guys, the government won't give him his legality yet, he
can't get work because of that, and he's pretty much alone. Yet he's always
just so happy, hilarious, and keeps a smile on his face. Pretty humbling to
see.
Well I love you guys a lot and hope everything's going well! I'm staying
safe and having lots of fun =)
